Welcome to band!
Practice makes....
permanent! Your child MUST be practicing at home on a regular basis in order to make progress on their instrument. Try to find a few minutes a day (10-15 minutes) to let your child practice. Be sure that they are sitting in a firm chair (not a bed or sofa!) when they are playing. Encourage them to play their assignments for you!
Music Stand
You should consider purchasing a music stand for your child to use at home. These can be the black metal stands like we use in school (click here) for around $40, or you can purchase a wire folding music stand (click here) for $10-15. Music stands are available both online, or at ANY local music store. Please feel free to email or call for more information
Music Reading
Probably the most important thing you can do for you child at the very beginning of their band instruction is to help them memorize their note names. This skill will allow them to fully focus on proper sound production. Check out the links on my links page, or download the flash cards to get started! Just a few minutes a day of note practice will pay HUGE dividends for your child this year!
